Biography of Prof. Dr. Ramiz Mamedov
Professor Ramiz Mahmodov Oqlo Mamedov was born
in 1950 in Karajadar village, Georgia Republic. After
graduating from high school in 1967, he entered the
Baku State University in Azerbaijan and graduated in
1972.He has started his scientific activities in 1973 in
the center for Caspian Sea problems, Geographical
Institute of Soviet Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences, and
in 1975-76 he passed a two years period in Oceanography
Institute of Soviet Academy of Sciences. He started his master’s degree in
Physical Oceanography in Azerbaijan State University and defended his PhD
thesis in 1980.After getting back to Baku, he started working as the head of
Caspian scientific-experimental station of Space Research Company. In
1985, he entered the Geology Institute of Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences,
and in 1989 he entered the Geographical Institute. In 1991, he was selected
as the head of the center for Caspian Sea problems, and in 1994 he was
appointed as the deputy director of institute of Geography of the Azerbaijan,
National Academy of Sciences and now he is the director of above mentioned
institute. In 1996, he obtained his post-doctoral degree in technical sciences.
In 2001, he became a correspondent member of Azerbaijan National
Academy of Sciences, in geography. In 2009, by decision of high commission
of certificate issuance in Azerbaijan Republic he received the title of professor
on Hydrology. He has more than 40 years working experience on meteorology,
Physical Oceanography, and creating the physical and geographical models
of the pollutants distribution in Caspian Sea. Also, he has several books and
articles which have been used as credible references in the studies of
marine parameters.
