Nagella Venkata Krishnaiah was born on 24th October, 1947, in a
reasonably rich (at Indian standards) combined agricultural family with
more than 20 members in a small village called Penna Baddevolu in
Kauvoya Mandal, Nellore District, Andhra Pradesh, in southern region
of India. Completed his elementary education in the native village and
secondary education in C. S. S. Z. P. High School, Kullur, a village 10
kilometres away, walking each day for 6 years. After completing pre-
university course in V. R. College, Nellore in 1965, he did all agricultural
operations mostly related to rice cultivation for an year and joined for
B. Sc. Agriculture, a four year degree course in 1966 October 24th.
Completed the degree with an O.G.P.A. of 3.67/4.00 and achieving third
position in a class of 100 students.
Meanwhile, the family financial position is so deteriorated due to
squabbles while dividing the property, the author has to move to G. B. Pant
University of Agriculture and Technology, Pant Nagar, a place nearly 2000
kilometres away for financial assistance to study M. Sc. Agriculture with
Entomolgy as major. During M. Sc., He secured “A” grades in all subjects
and also created a record of obtaining highest percentage of marks (91.2)
in General Biochemistry, a 5 credit course considered to be the toughest in
the university at that time and compulsory for all branches of Agriculture,
Veterinary and Basic Sciences and Some Engineering subjects. Due to
complete absence of any permanent job opportunities after M. Sc., He
has to work in a temporary position of research assistant at All India
