higher oxygen consumption compared to atokous
worms is consistent with the hypothesis of increased
respiratory capacity during the period of increased
muscular activity when the worms are swarming
. Observed decrease in
dissolved oxygen level in the area could be due to
increased oxygen consumption of these swarming
epitokes. Swarming extended for two days, and then
mating and spawned worms ended up their lives with
mass mortality.
