the values between OI and OII
were 0.033 and 0.052, respectively (not shown in
Table). These results are also in agreement with the
GD and
Fst
values and AMOVA results obtained
between indigenous and exotic collections of the two
species indicating high gene flow resulting in poor
population differentiation.
2 Discussion
Over the years, SSRs have become the markers of
choice due to their abundance, co-dominance and
locus-specific nature. Consequently, these markers
have been extensively used for gene tagging, genetic
mapping and genetic diversity analysis in a number of
crop plants (Roder et al., 1998; Temnykh et al., 2000;
Prasad et al., 2000; Lee et al., 2004; Malysheva-Otto
et al., 2006; Barkley et al., 2006; Li et al., 2009; Wen
et al., 2009; Asfaw et al., 2009; Blair et al., 2010; Cho
et al., 2011; Mir et al., 2011; Albrecht et al., 2011;
Mandel et al., 2011). Although jute is an orphan crop
