During the quarantine period, People's Daily routines will undergo significant changes, such as irregular meal times, reduced physical activity, and more inconvenient access to medical care than before. These situations together lead to a deterioration in the physical and mental conditions of the elderly. Many people have more difficult chronic diseases to control and are more prone to depression, anxiety and loneliness. At the same time, their ability to interact with others and take care of themselves in daily life also weakens. Some people gradually adapted to this kind of life through certain methods, such as arranging home activities or socializing online. Research has found that good living habits are closely related to the quality of life. Some measures, such as remote medical treatment, regular exercise at home, and getting more help from people around, are very important for reducing negative impacts. The drawback of this study is that the number of participants was relatively small and the information was mainly filled in by themselves. Therefore, in the future, longer-term investigations will need to be conducted in more regions. This study aims to promote the adoption of more comprehensive and targeted approaches in public health activities to better safeguard the health and well-being of the elderly. As they age, their physical and mental conditions are more likely to deteriorate, chronic diseases are more common, and if unfortunately infected, the possibility of developing serious conditions is also higher. Isolation measures have restricted travel, reduced interaction with others, and made it more difficult to see a doctor and obtain assistance, all of which have further exacerbated their vulnerability (Cagnin et al., 2020; Di Santo et al., 2020; Mendoza-Ruvalcaba et al., 2022). In such circumstances, the elderly become less active, their physical functions and thinking abilities are not as good as before, and they are also more likely to fall into depression, anxiety or loneliness. These effects are more pronounced for elderly people who live alone, have poor economic conditions, or have cognitive problems (such as dementia or memory loss) (Sepulveda-Loyola et al., 2020; Oliveira et al., 2021; Zanjari et al., 2023). What impact does home quarantine have on the living habits (such as exercise, diet, social interaction, etc.) and quality of life of the elderly? Research has found that prolonged isolation has significantly reduced the activity levels of the elderly, causing them to sit for longer periods and have more irregular eating habits than before. Mental health is also affected, with anxiety, depression and some emotional problems becoming more common, especially among the elderly whose cognitive abilities are already poor. Their quality of life has declined in physical, mental and social aspects. The specific impacts vary from person to person and are influenced by factors such as living conditions, health status, and whether there is support (Colucci et al., 2021; Manjaly et al., 2023; Tomanek et al., 2024). This study will explore the impact of isolation on the living habits and quality of life of the elderly, which has practical value for formulating public health policies and implementing assistance measures. Existing data indicates that a multi-faceted approach should be adopted to pay attention to physical and mental health, enhance social support, and encourage the elderly to engage in safe exercise at home. Relevant departments and medical institutions should give priority to establishing a support system, promoting telemedicine and carrying out community activities to reduce the negative impact of isolation and help the elderly better cope with difficulties.
