For instance, a study on the application of a WeChat-based multimodal nursing program for postoperative women with breast cancer demonstrated significant improvements in health-related quality of life, social/family well-being, and functional well-being (Su and Yu, 2021). Similarly, the use of a WeChat platform for continuous nursing in patients with lumbar disc herniation showed higher compliance and effectiveness rates, leading to better quality of life and improved spinal and lumbar function. Another example is the interACTION system, a wearable rehabilitation monitoring platform used for patients following total knee replacement, which showed promising results in reducing physical therapy visits and maintaining patient and therapist satisfaction (Mennella et al., 2023). 5.2 Specific improvements in patient rehabilitation outcomes via the platform The implementation of intelligent platforms in remote rehabilitation nursing has led to notable improvements in patient rehabilitation outcomes. For example, the WeChat-based "trinity" remote rehabilitation model for stroke patients significantly enhanced limb function and activities of daily living, as evidenced by higher Fugl-Meyer Assessment Scale (FMA) and Modified Barthel Index (MBI) scores compared to the control group (Bell et al., 2020). In cardiac rehabilitation, a nurse-led eHealth program improved health behaviors, cardiac self-efficacy, and health-related quality of life, while also reducing anxiety and depression among patients with coronary heart disease (He et al., 2020). Additionally, the use of a smart web-based platform for hip replacement rehabilitation provided real-time assessment and correction of therapeutic exercises, ensuring accurate and effective patient recovery. 5.3 Positive impact of healthcare professionals’ engagement on postoperative rehabilitation outcomes Healthcare professionals' engagement plays a crucial role in the success of intelligent platforms for postoperative rehabilitation. The nurse-led eHealth cardiac rehabilitation program, for instance, involved personalized goal setting and regular feedback from nurses, which significantly improved patients' health behaviors and quality of life (Gharaei et al., 2021). In the WeChat-based continuous nursing model for lumbar disc herniation, the active involvement of healthcare professionals in monitoring and guiding patients led to higher compliance and better rehabilitation outcomes (Yu et al., 2022). Furthermore, the interACTION system's success was partly attributed to the positive feedback and willingness of physical therapists to integrate the platform into their practice, highlighting the importance of professional engagement in enhancing patient satisfaction and rehabilitation efficiency. 6 Challenges and Solutions for Implementing Remote Rehabilitation Nursing 6.1 Main challenges in implementing remote rehabilitation nursing via intelligent platforms Implementing remote rehabilitation nursing through intelligent platforms presents several challenges. One significant issue is the low generalizability of results from artificial intelligence (AI) applications, which can limit their effectiveness across diverse patient populations (Mennella et al., 2023). Additionally, the integration of various technologies, such as wearable devices and mobile apps, into a cohesive system can be complex and resource-intensive (Palagin et al., 2022). The COVID-19 pandemic has further highlighted the need for robust digital platforms that can handle increased demand and ensure continuity of care. 6.2 Difficulties in training and adaptation for healthcare professionals and corresponding strategies Healthcare professionals often face difficulties in adapting to new technologies and integrating them into their practice. Training is essential but can be time-consuming and costly. One strategy to address this is the development of user-friendly platforms that require minimal training and offer intuitive interfaces (Nakayama et al., 2023). Additionally, incorporating AI and machine learning can help automate routine tasks, thereby reducing the burden on healthcare professionals and allowing them to focus on patient care (Figure 3) (Arntz et al., 2022). Regular workshops and continuous professional development programs can also help in keeping the staff updated with the latest technological advancements.
